Wilson Marriage


He was born in Colchester in September 1842. He was 63 when he laid his stone. His family had a tradition of Milling and he too became a miller. He married Mary Thomson in 1868. They had four children. He lived at Dilbridge Hall, Harwich Road then later, at Alresford Grange, where he spent the rest of his life. He employed a cook and a housemaid through out his life. He was a Liberal Councillor. He was an Alderman by 1887. This means that he was elected by the council, not the electorate. He was mayor of Colchester four times, 1891-92, 1901-02,1907-08, 1913-14. He was also a Justice of the Peace. He represented  Colchester at the Coronation of Edward VII at Westminster Abbey in 1902. His wife died on Tuesday 5th March 1916. She had been an invalid for many years. He died at Alresford Grange on Sunday 17th July 1932 aged 89.
