Baptism of Believers

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. In keeping with this ‘Great Commission’ here at Orchard we follow the practice of ‘Believer’s Baptism’.

Believer's Baptism is normally by total immersion, although we hold that it is the depth of the faith – not the depth of the water – that is important. In going through the waters of baptism an individual is making a public declaration of a personal faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. It is a picture of being buried and raised to new life, and is an external demonstration of an internal experience.

Service of Thanksgiving, Dedication and Blessing for babies and children

As Christians we believe that everyone is special to Jesus, including babies and children. We welcome into the family of the church babies and children who are too young to believe in Jesus for themselves with a service of thanksgiving (thanking God for them) dedication (of their parents to the tasks and responsibilities of parenthood) and blessing (praying for the children and the family)
